Both the scene and Queen is too much 😍
Paul Mescal was born in 1996 in Ireland. He has parents – a police officer and a teacher- that were always supportive and never questioning his choices. This is very important especially for young people to chase dreams, try new things and a build a career.
He studied acting at The Lir Academy which is Ireland’s National Academy of Dramatic Arts at Trinity College Dublin. He performed in plays in Dublin theaters. But as an actor, he is probably known for
- The Lost Daughter – 2021
- Normal People – 2020
- Aftersun – 2022

Paul Mescal has already won our hearths with Normal People as a role of Connell. Daisy Edgar-Jones and him have the perfect match. We loved to see the in and out of romantic relationship and friendship of Marianne and Connell. He wins Bafta ‘Best Actor’ award for Normal People.

He was also nominated for an Emmy as an outstanding lead actor for Normal People. After nomination, several UK publications mistakenly claimed he was British. Then, he tweeted as “I’m Irish.” which was the most like and talked about posts on the social media platform in 2020.
The Lost Daughter was also wonderful to watch Olivia Colman and Paul Mescal together. But I should say that the lost daughter is one of the masterpiece performances of Olivia Colman. Of course, I should give credits to Dokata Johnson and Paul Mescal, but if Olivia Colman is there, nothing much left to say😎
Finally, we can talk about Aftersun….

One of the best movies of last year… With that, Mescal gains entry into one of Hollywood’s most exclusive and illustrious clubs: 26-year-old best actor nominee.
Aftersun is a movie that will rip your heart but also warm it at the same time.
It is one of the best depictions of depression and grief I’ve seen on a film. I love it even more as the movie were filmed in Turkey. We can have a chance to see the 90s of Turkey which we miss a lot especially as Turkish people. ❤

In Aftersun, Paul plays a single dad, Callum, trying to be present for his 11-year-old daughter Sophie. Calum is never diagnosed in Aftersun but he shows many signs of someone suffering from a form of depression. He tries to hide it from Sophie, but in moments of solitude, you see the pain, self-loathing, fear, and despair that surrounds him.
Sophie was too young then; she perhaps sensed that all was not well, but she was not capable of completely understanding her father. Now, as an adult, she realizes what her father went through.
Our parents try to create the best childhood for us. But sometimes we forget that they also have their own lives, feelings, traumas and dead-ends.
Calum fears growing old. We can assume this is a natural fear for many 30-somethings (I am going to be 30 in June 🤞) The fear of aging seems triggered with his depression and anxiety about his life.

At the end ,Calum walks away, not going back into the real world in Sophie’s memories. You will see the lights coming from behind the door, and this seems to imply that this becomes Sophie’s final active memory of her father.
It’s not bluntly stated, but heavily implied that he commits suicide not too long after that trip. Maybe, Calum doesn’t commit suicide, but his life still ends in a heartbreaking manner. You can just feel the weight of his absence so much that it seems like the movie makes a big declaration about his fate.
And the Oscar Goes To……….. Paul Mescal in our hearts ❤ He was nominated as Lead actor. But I feel that it is very soon that he will raise the Oscar Statuette.
